Q: When should I call 911?
A: When you have a Police, Fire or Medical emergency. There is a situation that could, or does, pose a danger to life, property or both.
Any situation that requires immediate dispatch of an officer. If you misdial and accidentally call 9-1-1,
DO NOT HANG UP!
Wait until your call is answered and explain that you misdialed.
Q: Are you civilian or military police?
A: Although we do work closely with our military counterparts the department is comprised primarily of civilian federal police officers.
Q: Why are there civilian police on a military installation?
A: Puget Sound Naval Shipyard has a large population of civilian employees. Military police do not have jurisdiction over civilians. In order to have jurisdiction over crimes that may be committed by civilians we have civilian federal police officers and the federal magistrate court system to adjudicate crimes.
Q: What services do you provide?
A: We provide Anti Terrorism / Force Protection and Physical Security functions. We enforce federal, state and local laws and regulations within our jurisdiction on federal Navy property, including Jackson Park Navy Housing.
We protect life, property and Navy assets utilizing vehicle, bicycle and boat patrols and fixed posts.
Q: Who mans the gates at NBK Bremerton?
A: Although you may occasionally notice sailors at the gates (Normally wearing green). Primarily they are civilian federal police officers (wearing blue uniforms and shoulder patches saying "police") with the authority to write citations for traffic violations or to apprehend should a crime be commited.
